According to Ayurveda, five elements make up the universe and all living beings: ether, air, fire, water, and earth. The five elements combine to form the three doshas, or energies, that govern the body: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.
Vata is the energy of movement and is composed of ether and air.
Pitta is the energy of transformation and is composed of fire and water.
Kapha is the energy of stability and is composed of water and earth.
Each person has a unique combination of the doshas, which affects their physical, mental, and emotional characteristics.

An Ayurvedic practitioner takes a thorough history of the patient and conducts a physical examination, including taking the patient's pulse, to determine their constitution and the state of their doshas. They then create an individualized treatment plan that includes diet, lifestyle modifications, herbal remedies, and other natural therapies to bring the body back into balance.
